FOR MANY YEARS, custom keyboards were completely unique and built
specifically for only one application. Today, a much more common
approach is to use a standard keyboard and customize only certain keys
on the keyboard, usually in the Function Row. This provides numerous
advantages, including lower cost, shorter lead time and greater long-term
flexibility.
If you've seen what appears to be a standard PC-style keyboard with colored keys or keys with specialized text or graphics, you know what the typical customized keyboard looks like. You may have seen a keyboard like this at your local retail store or public library. Many large organizations that do business by phone commonly use customized keyboards to speed customer service and increase the productivity of their employees. If your organization has an application that contains "hot keys" or combinations of key strokes that are commonly used as shortcuts, it's an excellent candidate to benefit from an affordably priced custom keyboard.
